L’idée d’un golf dans la région fouesnantaise remonte à 1938, mais ce n’est qu’en 1959 que verra le jour un 9 trous situé à La Forêt-Fouesnant, alors un petit port de pêche situé dans l’ombre de son grand frère Concarneau, distant de 8 km.

The idea of constructing a golf course in the Fouesnant area dates back to 1938 but it was only in 1959 that it came to fruition, when a 9hole course was opened. It was situated in La Foret Fouesnant, then a small fishing village in the shadow of the large and established port of Concarneau.

A cette époque, seul le prestigieux golf de Dinard permet aux adeptes de ce sport, y compris aux nombreux britanniques qui fréquentent la Bretagne, de s’adonner à leur passion dans la région. La création du golf de Quimper et de Cornouaille, car tel est son véritable nom, dans un site charmant, mais dont l’histoire montrera à quel point il est exceptionnel en ces temps d’urbanisation soutenue du littoral, introduit le merveilleux virus de la petite balle blanche dans cette Cornouaille française. Surtout, elle constitue un attrait touristique de qualité pour une clientèle toujours plus exigeante.

At the time, golf lovers from everywhere, would go to the renowned Dinard Golf Club to satisfy their passion for the game when in Brittany. The founding of the “Golf de Quimper et de Cornouaille”, in such an ideal and beautiful location by the sea, proved an inspiration and delight to locals and tourists alike. History has already shown, with the subsequent development that has taken place along the coasts of the region, the foresight of the club creators was quite exceptional.

Le développement du sport et du loisir golf conduit tout naturellement à envisager une extension à 18 trous, dont la conception est confiée à Fred Hawthree Jr. Le nouveau parcours est inauguré le 29 mars 1992, soit 54 ans après l’idée de départ… Le golf est un jeu de persévérance…

The popularity of the game and the success of the club led to a further 9 holes being added ,designed by the established British architect Fred Hawtree. They were opened on March 29th 1992, some 54 years after the original plans were laid!
